How does bank statement to Excel work?
Dynamite Docs extracts transaction dates, descriptions, debits, credits, and balances from digital or scanned bank statements. Review the rows and prove the opening and closing balances before exporting to Excel.
The result is an editable transaction table, not a completed reconciliation. Wrapped descriptions, signs, repeated headers, and running balances still need source review.
How do you convert a PDF bank statement into an Excel spreadsheet for accounting reconciliation?
Use Bank Statement to Excel for a downloaded PDF or clean scan that needs structured transaction rows for accounting reconciliation. Before uploading, confirm the statement currency, reporting period, page count, opening balance, and closing balance.
During review, preserve the original transaction order and identify whether the bank uses positive and negative signs or separate debit and credit columns. Recalculate the running balance from opening to closing, and verify wrapped narrations, fee lines, reversals, blank check references, and repeated page headers before exporting.
For general financial schedules or balance sheets, use PDF to Excel. When table boundaries and column recovery are the primary hurdle, use the PDF Table Extractor, or select PDF to CSV when your accounting software requires a flat import file. For multi-account monthly close cycles and recurring reconciliation, set up a saved bank-statement extraction workflow.

Dynamite Docs keeps the source and structured result in one review workspace. Infer document fields and repeating rows, correct values against the page, inspect warnings and export the accepted result.
This is more than a plain OCR transcript. The result separates fields, line items, totals and notes so a person can check the structure before sending data to Excel, CSV, JSON, Google Sheets, Google Drive, a webhook or the API.

What the Excel-ready bank transactions contains
- Account holder, masked account number, statement period, opening balance and closing balance stay outside the transaction table.
- Each transaction row keeps its date, full narration, reference, debit or credit direction, amount and running balance.
- Excel keeps balances as numbers for formulas. CSV gives you a flat import file, while JSON includes columns, rows and statement metadata.
- The original narration remains available even when a shorter reference or counterparty is parsed from it. You can see the evidence behind a proposed match instead of losing payment detail during cleanup.
- Opening and closing balances act as controls for the whole statement. Recalculate the sequence, find missing or duplicate rows, and record any unexplained difference before matching entries to the ledger.
- Ledger accounts and reconciliation status are deliberately left blank. Add them in your accounting process, where business context can separate revenue, transfers, refunds, fees, loan movements and unknown receipts.
Check each transaction before reconciliation
The account summary stays separate from the transaction table, so statement details do not become false ledger rows.
- Account holder: Riverbend Trading Ltd
- Account number: XXXX 4821
- Statement period: 01-31 Aug 2026
- Opening balance: 18,245.30
- Transaction date: 28 Aug 2026
- Description: NEFT supplier payment
- Debit or credit: 4,200.00 debit
- Running balance: 14,045.30
Extract first, then decide what to keep

Prove the opening-to-closing balance
Confirm transaction counts, debit and credit separation, multi-line narrations and balance continuity. Reconcile opening balance plus deposits minus withdrawals against the closing balance. Adjust unclear rows inline before downloading clean Excel, CSV or JSON files.
Cases that need manual review
- With one signed amount column, you need a rule for whether a minus sign means debit, withdrawal or reversal.
- A wrapped narration may look like a new transaction when its continuation line has no date.
- Password protection, missing pages or an unreadable opening balance blocks a reliable opening-to-closing check.
- Repeated page headers and brought-forward balances can become false transactions, changing both the row count and closing balance.
- Statement order and posting-date order may differ. Keep the original sequence until you have checked the running balance.
- Reference numbers may wrap or begin with zeroes. Spreadsheet number formatting can damage them even when extraction was correct.
- Convert bank statements in browser RAM with zero remote uploads
- Stitch wrapped multi-line payee descriptions into clean single rows
- Reconcile opening and closing balances with automated mathematical proof
- Separate debits and credits into distinct columns for spreadsheet formulas

How can I verify that my bank statement is not uploaded?
Open your browser Developer Tools (F12) and inspect the Network tab. Drag and drop your bank statement. You will see zero outbound HTTP POST or PUT requests carrying file payloads. Decoding and reconciliation run entirely in client-side WebAssembly RAM.
Can it read scanned bank statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and statement images are supported. Clear pages with a consistent transaction layout produce results that need less correction.
Does it keep debit and credit columns separate?
Yes. Even when statements use a single amount column with positive/negative signs or CR/DR codes, the parser separates money in and money out into distinct spreadsheet columns.
How does it handle multi-line transaction descriptions?
The spatial coordinate parser identifies transaction date anchors and automatically stitches wrapped payee details, check numbers, and wire references into one row instead of creating orphan rows.
What happens if the calculated balance does not match the statement?
An automated formula checks: Opening Balance + Total Deposits - Total Withdrawals = Closing Balance. If a discrepancy exists, the balance banner flags the difference so you can correct rows before exporting.
Can I upload a password-protected statement?
Remove the password locally before upload. The browser memory sandbox cannot open an encrypted statement without its password.
